A gallery of my work organized by year.
Every year my wife and I host several friends who come into Atlanta to attend DragonCon. Finally, after several years of just not having a moment to spare before, during or after, this lovely lady and I managed to carve out barely an hour for a quick shoot before she had to dash for the airport for her flight home.
It’s been a while since I have posted anything here but I have not been idle behind the camera. Here is a recent experiment with a nude model and lighting for shape and texture.
I don’t always take photos of beautiful nude women. Sometimes I take photos of beautiful buildings and other structures. In many ways, the shapes, lines, textures and structures all tell a story in the same way the curves and blemishes and shapes of the human body do. I try to find that story and capture it. Then there times when there is something that is just plain visually neat.
This is a new set in my continuing explorations in shape, form, shadow and how it can be used to express the beauty and eroticism of the female form.
It has been more than a year and a half since I posted anything here. It’s been a busy year, though not in a way that I would have hoped for. I’m coming out of that tunnel now and am ready to start publishing the art I created during that time. I hope you find as much beauty and love in the stories told by the subjects in these photos as I did when I shot them.
This model turned 48 not too long after these photos were taken. She is the mother of two and grandmother to one, stepgrandmother to one and “aunty” to dozens of close friends. She has lived a hard life but found her safe haven a decade ago. That haven has given her the space to grow to love herself and her body and know it for the story-book it is and all of the scars and blemishes and even it’s shape are the language the story is written in.
I am blessed to be allowed to capture a few moments of that story and share them here. You’ve seen her before many times over the years and will see her again, much more often as time goes on. This is the beginning of a new story for her. I hope you get as much pleasure from see it as we are in telling it .
This set wraps up the boudoir shoot that Kerstin and I did a few weeks ago. These images weren’t from any particular set, or plan. I just saw here sitting back relaxing while I was adjusting lights to prepare for the shots posted on Day 8. I warn people that if you sit still long enough, I’ll shoot you and that’s just what I did here. No posing, no planning, just her sitting back, relaxing and having fun in front of the camera.
These are decidedly NOT safe for work. Nudity and implied nudity. You’ve been warned.
On the eight day, boundaries were pushed and comfort levels tested. The original purpose of this entire evening of photography was to create a photo book for Kerstin’s partner, John. These last few images are from a very intimate set of photos that I thought long and hard before asking permission to post.
On the one hand, they are astounding photos that show not only a sensitive vulnerability, but the strength Kerstin has to push through and let that vulnerability and strength be shared with everyone who can appreciate it.
There is implied nudity in this set. Well, let’s be honest, there’s nothing implied about it. She IS nude, but the poses are such that they never devolve into lurid or exhibitionist. Technically, they’re all Facebook safe, even if most HR departments would have to go have a lie down and a hot toddy to recover.
So with that said, I give you a taste of beauty, vulnerability, sensuality and above all, Strength.
The Seventh and final day of a week of posts from the most enjoyable shoot I’ve had this year.
This last set is the most traditional boudoir style outfit of the evening, but we’re still doing it our way and having fun with the theme. Enjoy.
This set also includes one of my single favorite (and probably single best) photos of anyone I’ve taken this year.
(no nudity, but there are suggestive themes)
We move deeper into an evening of shooting and laughing and generally having a blast. Day 5 shows the playful side of Kerstin. We went for a bit of a ‘gangster’ look. Not the gangster’s moll, but the gangster. She’s no one’s moll.
What better attitude to show on the 4th of July than the freedom to be what you want, with not just laughter, but a promise of strength and willingness to back it up. I give you Gangster Kerstin.
(No nudity, but suggestive themes)
Day 5 expands on yesterday’s theme of introspection and subtlety. The iridescent wrap we use here is one that you may recognize from a few shoots I did almost 12 years ago. I lost that wrap some where along the way and found it at a going-out-of-business sale cloth shop a few months ago. Yeah, I bought the whole bolt.
But enough about the cloth. You’re here to see the beautiful woman wrapped in it. So, here you go.
(you should know this already, but… No nudity; just suggestive themes, and not even really that suggestive today)
